Palliative Care Unit – Hospice

Palliative Care Unit – Hospice

Director Maltoni Marco

Hospitalization department

The Hospice is the place which receives patients who need specific and continuous palliative care as well as hospitalization, because of symptoms aggravation or because the family does not have all the facilities they need for assistance at home. In Hospice, relatives can visit patients 24 hours a day. The family also plays a fundamental and active role in the care project and they interact with medical staff.

Ward’s features

The ward has 7 single rooms and 2 twin rooms for a total of 11 beds. Each room has an ensuite bathroom, facilities for non-ambulant people and a chair-bed for relatives who want to spend the night in the patient’s room. The rooms are also equipped with a writing-table, TV, fridge, and a receiving calls telephone. In the Hospice there is also a lounge area which is divided into: a relax area with armchairs, TV, Hi-Fi and library; eating area, with a little kitchen and a tisane room where relatives and patients can make their own food.

Useful information for hospitalization

The hospitalization in Hospice is not carried out in urgent cases; patients are hospitalized following the waiting list of the Hospice. In the first day of hospitalization please bring the following documents: insurance card (in Italy tessera sanitaria), fiscal code card (in Italy, codice fiscale), valid ID with updated address and any medical document.
-Visiting hours: relatives can always visit the patients without time limits, also during doctor’s visit. After 9 p.m. we advice people to visit patients only in case of necessity, in order to allow patients to rest. Please enter from the door next to the Casualty.

At the time of discharge patients will be given a medical report for the GP. The report states the data about hospitalization and possible drug prescriptions. In case of necessity, the appointment for a medical control will be written in the letter.
